The Singleton of Dufftown 54 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the oldest single malt to be released by The Singleton of Dufftown and Diageo to date. There are only 235 bottles to be released world wide.
This 54 year old vintage single malt was created by the old slowcraft traditions and finished with modern techniques to produce a whisky that is layered, balanced, and full of exceptional richness.
The rich dark amber color gives way to scents of fresh herbs, licorice, and toffee. The balancing light bitterness evens out the sweet fruit scent. The lightly sweet taste starts fruity with dried figs leading to a spicy pepper flavor. With a bittersweet hint of burnt raisins, this finishes with hints of oiled teak, leaving the essences of fruit sweeter and the pepper slightly more spicy.
The decanter is a crystal masterpiece handmade by Baccarat in France, with the intricate copper detail around the neck crafted by Royal Warrant Holders, Thomas Fattorini. The bottle resides in a bespoke, leather lined wooden cabinet. The ridged setting of the decanter was inspired by the Scottish mountain landscape, amid wood mirroring the 54 years of maturation.
Globally recognized whisky expert, Charlie Maclean, had the opportunity to taste this vintage Single Malt and stated "An astonishing dram. I have never encountered a whisky like this before. A rare and unusual malt that has gained richness, mellowness and complexity on it's long journey to harmony, this very old whisky shows its age elegantly and rewards proper contemplation."
