A broken boiler! ...Six washbacks fermenting out of control! ...Could anything save this liquid from certain destruction???

In 2007, the Ardbeg Distillery was about to face one of its greatest challenges. A broken boiler threatened the very existence of six washbacks full of precious liquid. Nothing could stop them fermenting past the point of no return! The Distillery folks threw off the washback lids hoping for a miracle, and they received one! An invasion was taking place. Millions of tiny beings were descending from the skies and landing in the washbacks... The longest 'FERMUTATION' in Ardbeg's history had begun, and lasted 3 weeks longer than the normal fermentation time of 72 hours! This unprecedented happy accident and the 13 year aging time transformed the liquid into the SHARPEST, ZINGIEST and WILDEST Ardbeg ever!  UNBELIEVABLE BUT TRUE!

Ardbeg's Tasting Notes:

Colour: straw yellow

On the nose: Fresh, floral, herbaceous and powerful. Hints of mixed herbs and cedar wood. Very sparkling, lively, with notes of smoked orange and grapefruit, lots of menthol and peppermint. With a little water powerful waves of diesel oil, tar, freshly painted paint and anise. The finish is freshly mown hay with a tiny hint of something savory, like yeast extract or bread dough.

Palate: A lively, vibrant, 'sparkling' texture that culminates in very bold, distinct flavours - malty tones of biscuit, bold aniseed, cardamom, antiseptic lozenges, sweet mint toffee and cigar ash.

Finish: A lingering, salty, powerful finish of mint, tar, oak tannin & leather.

Bottled at 49.4% ABV - 98.8 Proof
